Angry Eaton As Rangers Denied The Win

By

Rangers can only draw at Buckingham Town after missed penalty.

Rangers manager Mark Eaton was not a happy man after his side were denied all three points by an injury time penalty that appeared harsh to say the least. Eaton said after the game ' I feel robbed. We did enough to win the game and that's probably the best we've played since I took over. How can the Referee can give a penalty for that?'. He had a point after the home side were awarded a penalty deep in stoppage time for what appeared a to be a well contested header by impressive new signing Alex Sethie. It certainly looked a fair challenge and even the opposition seemed mystified. Eaton can be pleased with his sides performance however, as they stretch their unbeaten run to five games. They were in command for much of this game and Jack Brooker had little to do apart from that penalty and an absolute wonder goal in the first half that gave him no chance.

The first chance of the game came to Rangers after two minutes when, following a good move, Alex Woodfine's shot was pushed wide. Shortly after Lawrence Clark's mazy run into the box saw his shot well blocked. At the other end Sethie received a boot in the face from the Buckingham striker attempting an overhead shot. It earned him a booking for a high boot. Rangers went close on thirty minutes when Jason Castello's header was tipped away. A minute later and Town's first shot on target was easy for Brooker. With half time approaching Clark's in-swinging corner was well saved by the home keeper before, against the run of play, Town broke and scored their wonder goal to rival that of Andros Townsend's effort against Manchester City at the weekend. From fully 25 yards the ball rifled into the top far corner to stun the visitors on the stroke of half time.

Eaton reshuffled his pack for the second half, moving Alfie Touceda out wide and pushing Marcus Wyllie central. It had the desired effect as Rangers threatened. On 50 minutes Touceda was put through by Clark and as he raced into the box he was bought down by the home keeper. A penalty was awarded with no complaints. The normally reliable Woodfine stepped up only to see his well struck shot saved. Three minutes later and it looked like it was to be one of those afternoons after Castello had his shot scrambled off the line. But from the resultant corner young Touceda glanced a header in with a neat flick at the near post to draw Rangers level. The visitors then enjoyed a good spell as Wyllie's shot was saved. Then Ian Pykett drove into the box and hit a low cross, with Castello just unable to connect. In the 60th minute Clark's free kick was just deflected wide. Buckingham had a rare shot on seventy minutes that flew well wide before, five minutes later Rangers won a corner. Clark delivered and Castello rose at the back post to head home and give Rangers the lead they deserved. Rangers looked comfortable now and kept up the pressure. Wyllie worked hard to keep a long pass in and wriggle some space before shooting over from a tight angle. With five to go Town's striker received a second yellow and left the field of play and it looked all over for the hosts. With two remaining Touceda set up Clark who shot over when well placed before, in time added on Town got their penalty, much to the chagrin of the Rangers players, bench and supporters. It was tough on Rangers but they can take heart from a good performance and look forward to next Saturday's home game against Winslow United.

Rangers Man of the Match: Lawrence Clark. Looking back to his best, Clark was pivotal to much of Rangers approach play. His passing was excellent throughout and his corners and free kicks were always a threat.
