The Trauma Continues
By Mick Webster
Ten defeats in a row and no end in sight.
The traumas continue for Seaford Town after the latest Sussex County League Division 2 defeat, the 10th in succession since the campaign began in August and leaves them 7 points adrift of their nearest rivals at the foot of the table.
A first point of the season never looked likely after Oakwood opened the scoring in the 4th minute through Toby Gilbert and Harry Lowe added a second 11 minutes later.
Their problems increased 7 minutes before the interval when Captain Tom O’Donnell was unfortunate to pick up his second yellow card of the game and his dismissal was followed by 2 further goals from Tom Lyons before the half time whistle went.
Town have been bugged all season by their failure to get going and conceding goals in clutches, a trend which continued with 3 goals in the first 6 minutes of the second half giving the home side a 7-0 advantage. Gilbert scored 2 of the complete his hat-trick while Lyons bagged the other to complete his own in a devastating 5-minute spell either side of the break.
New signing Mike Piperakis reduced the deficit in the 58th minute, only Town’s third league goal of the season, but Lyons netted his 4th just before the end to restore their 7-goal advantage.
Town entertain Storrington at the Crouch on Saturday and they occupy the other relegation place so nothing less than a win will suffice if progress is to be made.
