Club announcement , Danny Porter, * Funeral re-arranged to 14th March*

3:30pm at Hutcliffe Wood crematorium followed by Abbeydale Park Sports Club S17 3LJ.

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Danny Porter MBE. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Kerry, their sons Joe and Ben, and his parents David and Eileen along with his many friends and work colleagues.
As a past player, Captain, Vice President and more recently the Director of Rugby, Danny was SRUFC through and through. He fought his illness with the utmost dignity and courage not a word of self pity ever said. In the midst of battle he set up his Danny Porter Foundation to help others when in reality it was he that was in need of the very support he sought to give others.

In the coming weeks the Club will be looking at ways where we can pay a fitting tribute to him along with looking to support his family as much as possible at this most trying of times.
We will let you know as soon possible and thank you for your anticipated support.

Funeral

We are now able to confirm the details of Dan's funeral on March 1st. The celebration of his life will be at Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium in Sheffield at 3.30pm, then afterwards at Abbeydale Sports Club.

Numbers are likely to be high; we anticipate in the region of 300 and it may be that not everyone will be able to be accommodated within the crematorium.

However the doors will be left open and if necessary we hope to relay the service to the outside by sound system. We may not be able to speak with everyone after the committal but would love to see you back at Abbeydale.
No flowers please. Feel free to wear any colours; Dan would not have wanted everyone in black.

Any donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Danny
Porter Foundation Justgiving site, direct to the Foundation bank account (A/C number 51618222, sort code 54 41 44) or by sending to Dave Porter (cheques made payable to the Danny Porter Foundation).

We do not intend to have a collection plate at Hutcliffe Wood. Money raised will be sent to Weston Park Hospital, where Dan was looked after so well in his last ten days.
