Siddal Rugby Club is shocked to learn of the sudden passing of one our former players, Martin Hendrick, last weekend, aged just 52. Martin was a junior playing member from U-16’s through to U18’s and a member of our first team in the 1980’s. He was part of the squad that reached the 1980-1981 Yorkshire Cup Final and played in sides coached by Paul Sutcliffe and Dilwyn Lewis. As a mark of respect we will be holding a minute’s silence before our NCL play-off game on Saturday against Castleford Lock Lane.

Martin’s funeral will take place at St Marie’s Church, Gibbet Street at 11.00 am on Friday 7 November. Following the church service and the subsequent ceremony at Stoney Royd, mourners will be gathering at the Club. Martin’s family have asked us to announce that there will be a “Blue and White” theme to Friday’s celebration of his life, in recognition of his support for Huddersfield Town FC. We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Sharon, children Stacey and Liam, his parents John-Joe and Maureen and to his wider family and friends.

May he rest in peace.
