Slough finished of their season in style with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Eastcote 7 overturning a home 4-0 loss in the earlier fixture. In this critical relegation decider Slough had to win to avoid relegation with much the same players as the earlier fixture, bringing into close focus how the team has improved.
As has been common this season Slough were under pressure from the start and new look defence of Surjit Sandhu and Steve Dixon were initially put under pressure , some timely touches just keeping Eastcote away from the goal and unable to convert their good build up into shots on target.
The pressure continued and it was one such Eastcote pass that lead to the opening goal; the Eastcote centre half passing to Dixon on the edge of the Slough D rather than his actual target. Looking up quickly Dixon played a quick pass to Monserrate on the half way line who then used a combination of pace and strength to keep the ball away from his close marker and slide it past the goal keeper for a stunning opener - definately goal of the season for Slough.
Slough continued to attack but were unable to convert any more chances in the face of some aggressive defending from Eastcote and some interesting umpitring decisions.
At half time Dixon reminded Slough that they had been in this position before and thrown games away, however this time things were different - Slough made a minor alteration to the formation with Dixon playing a sweeping role behing Sukhdeep Panesar in midfield and Surjit Sandhu and Andy Popplewell hardly touched the ball in the second half.
Slough Made it 2-0 with a great opportunistic finish from Arunjot Singh after Monserrate's shot was saved and finally rounded off the scoring through Harjit Sandhu who flicked in a well worked corner move involving Ravinder Laly and Steve Dixon.
Slough were Jubilant with not only their win but also their first clean sheet of the season.
Things are finally looking up! Congratulations to the whole team ,especially the Colts who put in excellent dedication all season.
