Dereham Part Company With Management Team

By Simon Cullum

Rob Taylor has been sacked as Dereham Town manager.

Taylor has been at the helm for three years, during which time the First team twice won the Norfolk Senior Cup and also became established as a leading Ridgeons League Premier Division club. But he was dismissed on Monday night by the club's committee by 10 votes to one. The meeting came two days after Dereham lost 4-3 to Sheringham in the Senior Cup semi final - but the club insisted the shock defeat was not the reason for Taylor's sacking. Taylor said he was devastated to have been sacked. I just cannot understand it. I have worked my socks off for this club for three years and I have been sacked on the basis of rumours. Taylor insisted he had no intention of wanting to leave Dereham and had the backing of players. In a statement, club chairman Simon Barnes said: Dereham Town Football Club has parted company with the First team management team of Robert Taylor and Steve Culyer, following a club committee meeting. It was felt the club needed a change of direction. We thank them for their management over the past three seasons, during which time the Club has enjoyed a successful period. The decision was not taken as a result of the Norfolk Senior Cup semi-final defeat. We wish Mr Taylor and Mr Culyer all the very best for the future. No decision has yet been made on a successor for Taylor. :
