The win sees the Hawks gain revenge over the Greens, with Soham ending Harlow’s fourteen match unbeaten run at the Lane at the end of February, thanks to an injury time Jordan Gent header.
Following the 3-1 defeat at Aveley on Monday, the visitors made three changes with George Darling and Dylan Williams returning to the starting eleven, whilst there was a debut for keeper Dion-Curtis Henry, following his loan move from Peterborough United.
There was very little between the two teams in the first half, and clear efforts at goal where limited. Minutes into the game Dadson broke into the area down the right, however debutant keeper Henry came off his line to gather at the attacker’s feet, with Smith rising to head Relizani’s header at Hughes moments later. Midway through the half both Relizani and Gordon put over, but it was the hosts that came closest to opening the scoring on the half hour but Read could only fire Dadson’s flicked on freekick into the side netting, with Chadwick placing Sharman’s layoff over from the edge of the area just before the break.
Two minutes after the restart Harlow took the lead when Junior Dadson collected a right sided ball into the area, finding room to turn and fire across Henry. Despite the goal, the game continued in the same manner as the first half, as a well times Gent challenge stopped Read from getting in a shot at goal, whilst sub Melaugh fired at Henry and Sonko headed wide from a corner. But two Alex Read goals in the closing stages secured the three points for the hosts. The second goal of the game came with only four minutes remaining when the striker received a corner towards the back post squeezing his shot between Henry and the near post. A minute later Read again made his way into the area only for the keeper to again come off his line and deny. As the game moved into stoppage time, Gent put wide from a Relizani corner before Read scored his second four minutes into injury time when he got in front of the Soham defence to convert Antonie’s ball into the area.
