It was seen as a route to ensuring survival in the higher league against a good opposition, but this game soon turned into a frenetic spectacle. Both sides seemed to slug it out like boxers in a bout, with each needing a result for one reason or another. The Second half witnessed Saxons rally harder, and they showed why Horntye Park is no easy place for any side to visit. With a good bench of players they could draw on youth and experience in abundance with Sainsbury and Beal providing some good options in the forward areas. The second period seemed to be heavily weighed in the Home sides favour as they found acres of space and time on the ball. Cornish making some penetrating runs and Coombs ever enigmatic in his trickery. The second goal seemed to be not far off for the Blues as they jabbed at Horsham with some sharp blows. A penalty flick soon came their way having had a volley of shots well saved from Burnett, Cornish et al. A well worked Saxons short corner routine found Reed who looked to have scored but a for a foot on the line. Coombs dispatched the resultant flick with due diligence and gave little chance for the keeper to save it.

To a man, Saxons continued to work hard together and were always the most likely to win this game. Chances were created with away replies fewer. Man of the Match Burnett found lots of space and combined well with the hardworking midfield. Acott endlessly running, and Meredith calm in possession. Eventually a mazy run from Cornish and signature finish low into the corner sealed the victory in which the Hastings side had out fought/ thought a decent Horsham side. The hard work has been shared well this season and has provided a team that can all hold their heads high.
