This latest and last home game of Saxons season draws line perfectly in terms of the direction they have traveled, and the strength they have found a in united approach. The spirit is good within the dressing room and and I can personally say that you always feel the team will pull together alongside one, two and often up to 12 great individual performances.

It was seen as a route to ensuring survival in the higher league against a good opposition, but this game soon turned into a frenetic spectacle. Both sides seemed to slug it out like boxers in a bout, with each needing a result for one reason or another. Saxons have set a standard of experience in defence, hard graft throughout the midfield and flashes of individual flair mixed in. The Hastings side deservedly took the lead when Alex Coombs showed some of the aforementioned flair to strike a nice reverse stick shot low beyond the keeper.

This wouldn't be the instant KO of a side such as Horsham, but it helped to serve warning and provide for the probing that was needed for that big blow. Saxons met the pace of the game well with both Chris Meredith and Dan Burnett pushing up from fullback positions to support the movement and mindful exertions of Cornish, Acott, Coombs and Jon Meredith in the centre areas. The slugging continued and Horsham drew level with a skillful and timely blow from a well worked short corner routine, allowing an easy finish around the young and studious Nate Webster in goal.

A 1-1 Half time score defied the solid work of Saxons and the Peter Pan ensemble of defenders of Saxons who have a built a decent guild this season.

The Second half witnessed Saxons rally harder, and they showed why Horntye Park is no easy place for any side to visit. With a good bench of players they could draw on youth and experience in abundance with Sainsbury and Beal providing some good options in the forward areas. The second period seemed to be heavily weighed in the Home sides favour as they found acres of space and time on the ball. Cornish making some penetrating runs and Coombs ever enigmatic in his trickery. The second goal seemed to be not far off for the Blues as they jabbed at Horsham with some sharp blows. A penalty flick soon came their way having had a volley of shots well saved from Burnett, Cornish et al. A well worked Saxons short corner routine found Reed who looked to have scored but a for a foot on the line. Coombs dispatched the resultant flick with due diligence and gave little chance for the keeper to save it.

To a man, Saxons continued to work hard together and were always the most likely to win this game. Chances were created with away replies fewer. Man of the Match Burnett found lots of space and combined well with the hardworking midfield. Acott endlessly running, and Meredith calm in possession. Eventually a mazy run from Cornish and signature finish low into the corner sealed the victory in which the Hastings side had out fought/ thought a decent Horsham side. The hard work has been shared well this season and has provided a team that can all hold their heads high.
