Club Saddened by Sudden Death of Retired Player - Tim 'Chunky' Walkley

By Nicky Franklin

Club's thoughts and sympathies are with the family of retired player from 80s and 90s era, Tim 'Chunky' Walkley' who died suddenly last week...

It is with great sadness that I have to deliver the news that Tim ‘ Chunky ‘ Walkley a former player died suddenly on Wednesday night.

'Chunky' played junior, colts and senior rugby as hooker in the 80’s and early 90’s and was awarded the Rod James ‘Most Improved Player’ in 1989. A shoulder injury forced him into early retirement but he always kept in touch with the club and frequented the odd VP lunch even though he moved away to Wales to work and live.

Our thoughts and sympathy go out to his family at this very sad time.

The date of the funeral has now been confirm as Monday 4th June at Surfleet Crematorium at 3pm - followed by refreshments at The Mermaid in Surfleet.
