There was one change to the Daniels starting line-up from the win over Basford, new signing Kieran Wells coming in for Jon Challinor.
The game was in doubt in the morning due to rain but Kidsgrove officials did a fine job to get the game on. Rain continued to fall through out the match but did not significantly after the playing surface.
Stamford started brightly without really testing Dave Parton in the home goal. This changed after twenty minutes when across from the right was headed back towards the centre of the goal by Callum Ball. His header found Fortnam-Tomlinson unmarked 12 yards out who fired his shot into the roof of the net, giving Parton no chance.
New signing Wells was then involved in a challenge with the Kidsgrove keeper resulting in both players requiring treatment. The referee then decided to book Wells for the challenge.
The remainder of the half was cut and thrust but we very little in the way of chances for either side. As the half drew to a close, the home side had a really good chance with a corner from the right, but Leon Ashman failed to connect with the ball.
An injury to Ben George meant a substitution at half time with him being replaced by Jon Challinor.
Stamford continued to look for opening in the second half but found them limited as Kidsgrove started to make chances as they played down the slope.
The home side had a couple of shots, but Danny Haystead in the Daniels goal was truly tested.
With fifteen minutes to go, Mike Armstrong was penalised for a foul on Rhys Thompson. The resultant free-kick was taken by Kyle Diskin and his shot was well saved by Haystead diving to his right.
Callum Ball had a great chance to score his first goal for Stamford, but the home keeper came out and the Daniels front man put his shot wide.
With time running out, the Daniels had a couple of good chances to increase their lead. First Jake Duffy was played in by Liam Adams, but the midfielder shot straight at the Kidsgrove keeper, then Adams had a shot from narrow angle, but his shot went wide of the far post.
