After Suttons unexpected but well deserved win over Workington last Saturday under new manager Neil Tooth, Sutton travelled to Stalybridge in a must win game as the hosts sit just one point above Sutton all be it with games in hand.
After an even opening with Stalybridge having more of the pressure Sutton had the best chance so far when Steele fired in a shot that the Stalybridge keeper had to stretch to tip over the bar.
After a spell of end to end football Stalybridge took the lead when a corner was not cleared and it dropped to Conner Hughes who fired home in the 32nd minute.
Sutton responded and a shot from debutant Josh Green whistled just pasted the post with the keeper beaten. Sutton went in a goal down and the pressure was on as they came out for the second half.
Justin Richards tried a great curling effort to the far corner with Jack Walton in the Stalybridge goal tipping the ball around the post.
In the 67 minute Justin won a penalty as he cut in inside the box, he got up and fired the spot kick home.
Both teams now looked for the winner which would mean so much to each team but despite some exciting moments at both ends neither team could full fill their wish.
This was an encouraging display and keeps Sutton in with some hope of avoiding the drop.
