Sutton were involved in a local derby with near neighbours Hednesford and having had the relegation issue settled last week they could look forward to playing with more freedom and with an eye to next season.
Sutton took the lead in the 4th minute when good work down the right between Justin Richards and Checklaine Steele led to a cross which left Karl Hawley with a simple tap in.
Hednesford replied with a shot that Jono Brown in the Sutton goal tipped over the bar.
Sutton went straight down to the other end and a dummy by Howley allowed Richards a shot that was deflected over the bar.
From a corner Hednesford stood still and appealed for off side and Richards fired home unchallenged in the 19th minute.
A great save by ex Sutton keeper James Wren denied Richards his second and Sutton's third.
Hednesford pulled one back in the 59th minute when a ball was headed downwards just inside the box and substitute Anthony Dwyer volleyed the ball home.
Sutton restored their two goal lead in the 68th minute when a corner on the right was glided home by Lee Smith.
In time added on in the 94th minute Karl Hawley scored with a shot curled from 20 yards into the top corner.
This was a satisfying response to the relegation that faces Sutton for next season.
