Thornes v Whinmoor (Under 10)

By Mark Parsons

Thornes battle bravely against Whinmoor

Thornes started the game with 5 players and 2 from our opponents for this friendly game. Whinmoor enjoyed the best start and found themselves 2 up in ten minutes. However Thornes did not let their heads go down and battled back.

The team now restored to their own players it was 9v9 and following some good interplay the ball broke to Lewis and on debut he calmly slotted the ball home.

Whinmoor pushes for a third but some good defending and some lucky defending Thornes held out until shortly before the break which meant at half time it was 3 1 to Whinmoor.

After half time Thornes came out battling and again looked threatening going forward with the pace of Lewis and our new debutant Sam with his trickery ball skills and it was no surprise that Lewis again latched onto a through ball and powered it past the keeper.

However that was as good as it got and Whinmoor took the game to Thornes and scored 4 without reply to make the game safe. However it was not finished and following some good footwork by Sam he picked the ball up in his own half and dribbled past 5 Whinmoor players to only be denied by the goalkeeper but Sam would not be disappointed and with virtually the last kick of the game he slotted a deserved goal to make the final score Whinmoor 7 Thornes 3.

Thornes Man of The Match went to one of the debutants for his endless running, well done Lewis and well done all for a much improved performance.
