Tigers NIHL Take Point From League Leaders

Tigers NIHL News

When the side at the foot of the table faces off with the run away leaders, many would think they would be able to write the script. Tigers NIHL, however, had their own script and at the final buzzer they would feel disappointed not to have taken both points following a brilliant performance.

A tense, high speed first period of end to end hockey ended with the league leading Solway Sharks going ahead 1-0. Although they were made to wait until for the opening goal, scored in the 14th minute, with Daniel Brittle in fine form on the Telford net. Early chances fell the Sharks' way on the power play, but the Tigers penalty kill unit stood firm on each occasion.

The Tigers took the second period 1-0 thanks to a strike from Slovakian Karol Jets. Telford's PK unit again needed to be called upon and the successful penalty kills gave the home side some boost going into the break looking dangerous with the score at 1-1.

Their momentum paid off just a minute and forty seconds into the final period as Jets bagged his second goal of the goal after capitalising on a loose pass from Solway's Juraj Senko. The Tigers had barely finished celebrating taking the lead, when the PK unit was back in action once more. Telford successfully killed a string of penalties, but at 51.48 the Sharks were back on level terms at 2-2.

Despite both sides having opportunities to win the game in closing minutes, they had to settle for a share of the points at the final buzzer.

Tigers NIHL are back in action at Telford Ice Rink this Saturday 4th February, when they face Deeside Dragons.
