A game of two halves

By

If ever there was a game of two halves, this was it. Tows blasted out of the traps and within minutes were threatening the Matlock try line.

Centre Martyn Harvey was denied a try after a thundering run when the referee judged the ball had been held up.
It eventually took 22 minutes to break the stalemate when prop Sam Smith surged over from a line-out drive to score a fingertip try.
Chrissie George and Dave Williams combined to race out of their own half, centre Williams winning a thrilling foot race to score in the corner.
Fly half James Falvey shot wide with both conversions but Tows ended the half 10-0 up and looking ascendant.
Bizarrely, the host’s half-backs from last week, Marc Yeates and Chrissie George, were both playing in the backrow as Tows continue to juggle injuries.
Tows turned round to face the elements, but while they had the wind in the faces, they certainly did not have it in their sails.
Their game imploded and soon after Tows lock Dan Banks went off with a torn hamstring , Matlock levelled the scores with a converted try and penalty.
Using the wind to their advantage, Matlock’s fly half kicked for territory and the visiting pack responded to his prompting.
Tows found themselves very much on the back foot and their cause was not helped when skipper Yeates hobbled off with a knee injury.
Matlock turned the screw with two more tries to put the game out of reach and move above Tows in the league table.
