Uxbridge run in six tries to get back to winning ways on the road at Haringey

Uxbridge came into this game aiming to get back on track after a couple of adverse results and with the wind and hill in their favour looked to make the most of it early doors.

The visitors started with a bang, with good ball retention and handling getting the team into the right areas of the pitch only for the last pass to be found wanting and making Uxbridge unable to open their account.

The pressure eventually showed and the accuracy finally improved fifteen minutes in with rampaging number eight Sam Dillamore opening his account with Uxbridge’s first try of the afternoon. In blustery conditions the resulting conversion was missed.
With the home side rattled and visitors very much on top, Haringey where forced into coughing up penalties in dangerous areas on the pitch, Dillamore doubled his and Uxbridge’s try tally shortly after with a pick and go effort from the back of a dominant Uxbridge scrum. The conversion was successfully added by Nick Guy to give a 12-0 buffer.

Uxbridge could smell blood with the penalty count not dropping in the Haringey 22, a driving lineout gave Uxbridge their third with mobile hooker Alex Clamp dotting the ball down. Guy again added the conversion to extend the lead to 19-0. Shortly after, Haringey opened their account following poor ball retention from the kick-off leading to a quick penalty which a Haringey centre gleefully seized upon to ghost his way through the defence and over the line. The following conversion was successful.

With half-time beckoning, the men in black, red and white looked to consolidate their lead and it was down to Dillamore again to finish off the teams good work after a turnover from the kick-off, good handling in the backs and register the bonus point.

Uxbridge took a commanding 26-7 lead into the break and under command from coach Ron Matthews were instructed to keep building it. This is exactly what happened shortly after sloppy work from Haringey at the ruck gave Uxbridge the chance to add a penalty to their half time score and take the score to 29-7.

After the penalty Uxbridge took their foot off of the pedal which allowed a gutsy Haringey side to string spell of their own together and seized the initiative to score two unanswered tries of their own to bring the score to 29-19. With the lead whittled away and getting a little close for comfort, skipper Jake Lamport issued some stern words to refocus the visitor’s minds and played the captains role in ensuring he was next on the score sheet to add Uxbridge’s fifth and take the momentum out of the home teams control on the game.

The visitors where under the pump late on with Haringey scoring their own bonus point try. The home side then pursued a potential second bonus point late on with the final whistle beckoning Uxbridge took advantage of a Haringey mistake from the kick off to finally quash the home side with for one more score from centre Tom Rainey who drove through the hosts defence and recycled to Dillamore to record his fourth try of the afternoon and take the final score to 41-24.

Uxbridge are hopefully in action next week with a club game looking to be scheduled. All players are encouraged to make themselves available. More details to follow.
