Walsall U 10's Beat Worcester

By

A performance of character, determination, skill and commitment saw Walsall through to a memorable victory.

Match 1 - Walsall 3 Worcester 2

An early kick off caught Walsall somewhat unawares and the experienced and well organized Worcester side took what appeared to be a strong 2 - 0 lead with some impressive strong running and slick handling.

Walsall's tackling and work rate at the ruck and maul were commendable but Worcesters' quality showed through and the half in their favour.

The half time team talk clearly did wonders for the Walsall boys and the increase in tempo, commitment and effort was palpable.

Superb running by Joe Dickson saw him canter in for a brace of wonderfully executed tries.

Will Roberts showed grit, determination and strength to cross the line as well and in doing so helped secure a superb 3 - 2 victory for Walsall.

For Walsall to come from behind, raise their game in the second half and secure such a comprehensive victory was a pleasure for all to see.

Match 2 - Walsall 2 - Worcester 2

Again Walsall made a slow start to the match but were competing very well. So much so Worcester made some substitutions and this was telling as Worcester scored 2 excellent tries to take a 2 - 0 lead going into half time.

In a mirror of the first game Walsall improved their work rate and it was a delight to see the less experienced players, who only joined this season, doing so well.

Luke, Jake, Cameron and Arun were fantastic and their ability to off-load the ball rather than take unnecessary contact was a lesson to all. Well done all of you.

However the "Man of the Match" was Ruben.

Ruben gave an object lesson to all those playing and watching that there is no substitute for commitment, effort and determination. He ran elusively, tackled with guts and ripped the ball from the oppositions grasp time and time again.

Those efforts were rightly rewarded with a superb try that put Walsall within a score.

In the last minute of the match Walsall put the pressure on and in the dying seconds Teddy got the ball in space and made good ground. It looked as though he would be tackled but somehow managed to jink inside and out then into space and secured a well deserved draw for Walsall.

An excellent mornings rugby and a well deserved victory.

Well done all of you.

Training next week. See you all at 10.00am.
