Winning Run Continues

Warrington Town welcomed Lancaster City to Cantilever Park, looking to get back into action following a lay off for bad weather, and kept up their unbeaten start to 2012, thanks to an excellent 4-0 win against a side above them in the table.

Manager Joey Dunn making only one change from the 0-0 draw at AFC Fylde, with Allan Collins coming in to replace the suspended Nick Jackson in the starting XI.

The home side started the brighter of the two sides, and hit the front in six minutes, Lee Madin seeing his fine cross finished well by Rob Hardwick from close range, giving Lancaster keeper Martin Fearon no chance. After going ahead so early, Town kept pushing forward, looking for a second, with centre half River Humphreys coming closest, volleying wide from a tight angle.

Despite their dominance, Warrington almost conceded to a rare Lancaster attack, striker Danny Hattersley seeing his powerful effort beat keeper Paul Pritchard, only to rebound off the crossbar and Town clttared to safety.

After this narrow escape, the home side once again took control, winger Allan Collins only being denied by Fearon well outside of the penalty area, before Lee Madin shot wide from distance with Fearon off his goalline. On the only occasion when Pritchard was beaten, Humphreys was on hand to clear the danger before the visitors could capitalise on the hesitancy in the Town defence. Town continued to dominate the rest of the half, but could not add to their one goal lead.

Warrington started the second half in the same manner as they did in the first, by finding the back of the net early on, with what could turn out to be a goal of the season contender, good build up play found Rob Hardwick on the edge of the box, whose first time back heel found Dale Wright in space, the midfielder taking a touch before coolly dispatching beyond Fearon and into the bottom corner.

A double substitution by the visitors shortly afterwards, had very little impact on the game, and indeed, Town soon added to their lead, Madin glancing home Matt Cross' excellent near post corner to put the game beyond doubt. Town continued to press forward, with Collins seeing his shot through a packed penalty area well saved by Fearon.

The closest Lancaster came to a goal occured soon afterwards, Hattersley seeing a shot go narrowly over Pritchard's crossbar. Town continued to press forward looking for a fourth goal to match the result Town achieved at Lancaster last season, with Collins shooting straight at Fearon soon afterwards.

With the game safe late on, Town manager Dunn, took the chance to give a debut to two youth team players, striker James Anderson, and midfielder Dylan Glass, who is the son of former Warrington winger Danny Glass, were introduced in place of Rob Hardwick and Liam Shipton. There was still time for a fourth goal, Lancaster failed to clear a corner completely, with the ball falling to Humphreys on the edge of the penalty area, who lashed a volley over Fearon and into the roof of the net, for his second goal of the season. Town went close once more, substitute Chris Thompson, getting on the end of some great football, only to see his shot palmed behind at full length by Fearon
