Ossett Albion 0-2 Warrington Town

By

Wire Win For Mado

Warrington Town continued their excellent run of form in 2012 and extended their unbeaten run to nine games, courtesy of a comprehensive 2-0 defeat of a hard working but ultimately limited Ossett Albion at Dimple Wells on Saturday, with goals coming from the excellent Allan Collins and a penalty from captain Tom Hardwick.

Town re-introduced Gavin Salmon into the starting eleven, replacing Lee Madin, who broke his ankle in the midweek defeat of Bamber Bridge.

On an unusual sloping pitch, it was the home side that started the brightest of the two sides, with striker Richard Treacey heading straight at Town keeper Paul Pritchard, before strike partner Luke Malcher saw his shot blocked by the Town defence. After these early scares, Town gradually took charge of the game, and Rob Hardwick went close soon after, seeing his shot well saved by Ossett keeper Jody Barford, with Liam Shipton seeing his follow up blocked.

The visitors had began to take control of the game, Tom Hardwick seeing his header blocked on the line by Gavin Salmon. Indeed, it was Rob Hardwick who had Town's best chance of so far, finding himself through on goal only to see Barford smartly off his line to deny the striker before he could pull the trigger. With Town dominating the game, it was only a matter of time, before they made a chance count, and in the 28th minute, Collins did just that, reacting smartly to Rob Hardwick's header on, to wrong foot Barford and find and net with a coolly taken header.

Four minutes later, Warrington had a great chance to make it two nil shortly after, Kyle Hamid's throughball finding Salmon, who saw his shot beat Barford, only to be cleared off the line by defender Kevin Quinn. Town continued to apply the pressure to the shaky looking defence, but found Barford in fine form, the keeper denying Dale Wright with his legs, before denying Salmon with a fine flying save.

Winger Liam Shipton went close too, seeing his shot go narrowly wide of the upright, after a fine mazy run, which saw him beat three defenders. With Town attacking, Ossett went close on the counter attack soon after, Wright producing a crucial header off the line to deny Treacey a goal, before midfielder Adam Hayton missed Ossett's best chance of the half, flashing a header narrowly wide of the Pritchard's upright.

Once again Ossett Albion came out of the blocks well at the start of the half, winger Kurtis Noble only being denied by Pritchard's sprawling save, after a fine run at the heart of the Town defence.

After this early scare, as earlier, Town took control of proceedings, with Rob Hardwick seeing his long range piledriver saved acrobatically by Barford. Just after the hour mark, Town sewed the game up, Allan Collins being felled in the box by defender Arron Guiry, with captain Tom Hardwick taking the responsibility for the penalty, the first since losing penalty taker Anthony Hickey to Skelmersdale United, and the centre back, was up to the task seeing his blasted shot hit the back of the net, despite Barford going the right way.

After this second goal, which killed off the game as a contest, the game took on the air of a training session for the Town players, with the home side offering very little to trouble Pritchard in the Town goal, Allan Collins shooting narrowly wide from distance, before Shipton did the same thing soon after. The 85th minute saw Town introduce substitute striker Brett Adamson for his debut, having recently signed for the club from Blue Square Bet Premier outfit Southport.
