Warriors WYMCA completed the double after winning the Division 4 knock out cup yesterday.
After receiving a 5-0 bye in the first round after Wolverines failed to attend, Warriors WYMCA had the advantage of an extra hours rest before the semi final against Forlorn Hope. Jack Doogue-Johnson opened the scoring and Warriors WYMCA led throughout the game. Rich Oxenbury, Sonny Boffa and JD Brogan added the other tries. The 4-2 victory meant that they faced Catch Me If You Can in the final.
Warriors WYMCA went 1-0 up through Jack Doogue-Johnson, but Catch Me If You Can dominated territory and possession throughout the remainder of the first half and they deservedly pulled level before the break. Catch Me If You Can then took the lead early in the second half, after creating an overlap on the blind side. With the opposition backing their defence Warriors WYMCA had a lot of the ball for the remainder of the match, but they were trying too hard to create opportunities which led to mistakes. With time running out, Warriors WYMCA managed to create one last opportunity and Jack Doogue-Johnson fed Joe Pain who slid in to score.
A period of golden try extra time followed and it was Warriors WYMCA who managed to get the decisive try. Julian Lund saw JD Brogan in a bit of space and he stepped around a tired defender to dive in and win the cup.
After the game Head Coach Dave Rogers was proud of the way the team had performed. "It was a fantastic way to end a special season. We had to play the 2 toughest teams and we found a way to win. Even when we were losing the final with 1 minute left we didn't give up and found a way to score, and that shows how well we have developed since September. The players can have a few weeks off now to reflect on their achievements before we start again in September. Every player has made a huge contribution this season and I want to thank all of them for their efforts."
