Batting first, Waverley’s Jim Wright holed out with 54 of the first 79 runs before the visitors teetered and wickets fell regularly to some indifferent batting and two unplayable balls from the Vagabond’s Bill Perton. Simon Knox kept his head and steered the visitors to 179 helped by a 40 partnership with Bob Moxham for the 7th wicket.
Waverley had two in the first 6 overs and thought they had a chance but the home side’s patience paid off as they gradually got themselves back into the game. Rob Boot’s quick 29 and some hard hitting from Les Harding who jug evaded with 49 supported by Tom Humphry’s enabled the Vagabonds to romp home with 3 wickets to spare. Waverley bowled and fielded well but were just outplayed overall.
