WAYSIDERS/DRUMPELLIER 34 UDDINGSTON 15
Waysiders/Drumpellier’s under-15s were victorious at Uddingston in their latest league clash, despite giving up home advantage to ensure they could play.
The Langloan outfit took an early 7-0 lead on Sunday and never looked back as they ran in six tries.
Proud W/D coach Malky Clark saluted the courage of his players as he expressed his delight with the win.
“I thought it was a magnificent effort by the boys,” Clark said following the match.
“It was obvious that both teams haven’t had much game time or training lately, due to the weather conditions.
“But we capitalised on Uddingston’s mistakes and our dominance at the scrum gave us a good platform from which to control the game.”
W/D took the lead in the 10th minute when Peter Hunter ran the length of the field to touch down under the posts. Michael Docherty successfully kicked the conversion.
Reiss Young, Reece Devlin and Hunter scored three more tries and Uddingston replied with two of their own to make it 22-10 at the interval.
Uddingston touched down again early in the second half but that was as close as they would come. Tries from Docherty and Young, one of them converted, ensured a 19-point victory margin for W/D.
