Two out Two for Weirs on Glorious Saturday

By Colin Baxter

The weekend weather was superb and the cricket matched it as both Weirs teams made it three wins out of four.

Weirs faced Renfrew at KGV field for the second time in 6 days. As in the Scottish Cup tie on Sunday Renfrew batted first and this time they fared much better, posting a useful-looking 229 for 5 of 50 overs. Said scored 101 not out for Renfrew. Mo Afzal took 2 wickets for Weirs.

A target like 230 would normally prove very tricky for Weirs teams in recent years but not so today. Openers Sameer Zia and Rouman Butt quickly took control, both making 70s. When they were eventually out skipper Zulfi Shahid and Irfan Shah both batted well to take Weirs home comfortably for an 8 wicket victory.

Albert Park faced Nunholm at home in the 2nd XI game. Albert Park batted first and openers Zaheed Hussain and Inderbir Mahal gave them a solid start. A middle order wobble followed but some useful late hitting took Albert Park to 198 all out.

Five wickets from Raja Safder then blew away the Nunholm top order and ensured that they would not get close to the victory target. Zaheed Hussain and Sherali Afzal also weighed in with a couple of wickets each. Although there was a defiant 10th wicket stand it could only delay the inevitable and Albert Park won by 80 runs.
