Welwyn Girls U18's overcome Berks Baa Baas

By

It was normal service again on Sunday as Welwyn under 18 girls rugby team took one step closer to winning the RFUW U18 Central league.

This was the return fixture against Berks Baa Baas and the girls' first competitive match since the end of January. The girls had been prepared for a very hard and physical game of rugby - what neither the players nor coaches had planned for were the freezing conditions, the snow, rain, wind and the girls being so muddy that at times it was hard to see who had the ball.

Nevertheless, the girls gritted their teeth and battled on, grinding out a 27-0 win in what can only be put down as the messiest game of rugby we have played in a long time.

Tries came from Hollie Trim and Courtney Arberry in well worked moves in the first half, and, with conditions getting worse in the second half, the tries were again ground out by the forwards, with Courtney Arberry scoring her second, Oren Blindell scoring the hosts' fourth and Kate Sellars wrapping up with the fifth try, converted by Abbie Maxwell.

This now leaves Welwyn sitting at the top of the table and ready and waiting for their crunch game against London Irish next Sunday.
