U11s win Soft Ball Championship

By James Main

Westgate's youngsters beat Sedgwick by four runs on Sunday in order to seal the Soft Ball Championship at Cross Hill Park.

Sedgwick batted first and posted a competitive total of 283. Wickets were shared between Jack Johnson (3), Lawson Carr (2), Harry Miller (2), Matthew Bradshaw (2), George Abel (2), Marcus Palamountain (1), Charlie Higson (1) and there were two tight overs from Jack Liptrot.

The ground fielding and catching was not up to the usual high standard although Palamountain took a brilliant catch off his own bowling.

The Westgate reply was emphatic as Lawson, Harry Winder and Joseph Jones added 29, Abel and Miller added 23 and Palamountain, Higson and Rayaan Hussain added 25 - all without losing a wicket - to take the score to 277.

With victory in sight, nerves took hold and wickets started to fall. It needed a cool finish from skipper Nathan Allen to see Westgate take the main trophy as he saw out the last three balls without mishap in the total of 287.

A big congratulations must go to Murph and the players on a remarkable achievement!

Also a big well done to Man of the Match George Abel.

This remarkable feat now appears on the Honours Board section of the website and will be on the clubhouse Honours Board shortly.
