Witham just couldn't stretch a lead enough to hold Dagenham off.
Conditions were fine as Witham made an uncharacteristically quick start. Jake Westwood make the breakthrough with a superb burst of pace. With Doulton Wells slotting the conversion, the visitors were buoyant. Dagenham were using some accurate kicking to gain ground and this got them into Witham's 22. The forwards tried to bulldoze through but found no joy until they moved it wider for their centre to score. Steve Clements was getting a lot of work hitting the fringes and gained Witham a lot of ground. When Michael Harrison was found, he broke the Dagenham line and with the defence turned, Josh Tappy Taplin added to his scoring record to extend the lead to 5-12. Witham had momentum and were looking for more. But when the hosts got possession, yet another kick into space got them out of jail. From there they managed to get some phases together and scored. Late in the half, the home side kicked a penalty to take the lead. But moments later Doulton Wells did the same to give Witham a 13-15 lead at the Break.
