Bonus Point Win at Camp Hill

Wanderers kept their promotion hopes alive with a laboured performance at Camp Hill RFC, winning by 26:5 and gaining a precious bonus point.

In glorious sunshine it was Camp Hill who initially showed the greater enthusiasm for the tussle.

The Wanderers struggled to get out if their half as Camp Hill ran hard at the defenders but, they couldn't find a way through with Sam Carter, Chris Griffiths & Russ Marsland prominent.

A penalty relieved the pressure and Tom Biggs drove it deep into the Camp 22; from the line out the Wanderers set a driving maul; Camp defended desperately but, couldn't hold out and James Priddey scored near the posts, Biggs converting.

Back came Camp, they retained possession well and forced their way into the a Wanderers 22, some slick handling found their centre who crashed over wide on the left for an unconverted try.

Stung, the Wanderers attacked the restart and earned a penalty which Biggs put into the Camp 22, from the line out the Wanderers were awarded a scrum when Griffiths was held up over the line; an alert Ned Anderson scooped the ball up from the base of the scrum and scored close to the posts, Biggs converting.

The second half began with the Wanderers trying to up the pace but, passes didn't go to hand as Griffiths, Carter and Kieran Morris made line breaks.

Camp were frustrating the Wanderers with their tenacity and aggressive defence.

Finally, they cracked when a well controlled Wanderers 5 metre scrum led to Griffiths touching down as the Camp scrum was driven over their line. Biggs missed the conversion.

The Wanderers went in search of the bonus point try; two glorious opportunities were wasted before Carter arced outside his opposite number to score wide on the left to complete the scoring.

Camp upped their work rate as they looked for a way back into the game but, despite plenty of territory Camp couldn't breach a determined Wanderers defence.
