Chippenham Town U18 2-3 Yate Town U18
Bluebells progress in Cup at the Bluebirds expense
Yate made a fine early start to this FA Youth cup-tie at Hardenhuish Park, Maison Wilson connecting at the near post with Ellis Kow's low, driven corner to flick the ball over the line off the home keeper's hand and the bar. Chippenham came at the visitors with plenty of endeavour and it was crucial to maintain concentration and discipline, especially at the back and notably through Ewan McMillan and Nathan Goodwin-Worrell.
The hosts showed their intent from a central free-kick whipped over the wall, which called Mason Hawkins into action, before Sam Knight played a ball out wide to the right, and a superb deep cross was swept to the far post, where Takayo Nembhard met it with a well-placed downward header, giving the Chippenham keeper little chance and firing Yate into a 2-0 lead.
Right on half-time, the home side struck back. A lofted cross to the far post was headed back across the face of goal and the ball was tucked away, as Yate switched off at the back, the arrears were halved, and we had a cup-tie on our hands again.
The next goal would be crucial, and Chippenham raised their game-play and their threat from the restart. Yate were a little careless with their passing, unable to create anything meaningful in the final third, and the equaliser came from the hosts as they built left to right. They outnumbered the Yate defence and the spare man at the back post slotted in the leveller. The home side were now on top, causing panic in the away penalty box from an uncleared free-kick. Their striker sent an effort goalwards, Hawkins was able to get something on it to slow it and the danger was cleared away.
Approaching the final minutes, the visitors launched an attack into the opposing box. With challenges going in, the ball spun loose towards the post and Ewan McMillan lunged to stab the ball into the net for 2-3, before a late Troy Sutherland burst, running mazily in from the right, brought a last minute save from the home keeper.
The Youth Team now progress to the First Round Qualifying with a home tie against Bristol Manor Farm in the week commencing 17 Sept 2018
