ORUFC enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Tarleton in North Lancashire Division One — their fourth successive home win this season.
A superb run at Manor Park has seen Guy Lovgreen’s side plunder 47 tries, score 165 points and concede just 21 this season leaving them in second place in the table having played a game less than the 1st and 3rd placed teams.
This week saw the return of Skipper Gareth Barber following a leg injury that has kept him out for the last three games.
The visitors took the game to Oldham but found a strong defence kept them at bay before the home backs opened up and John Gillam notched an unconverted try.
Mark Brocklehurst then crossed, with Josh Brown converting for the extra points.
Barber crashed over soon afterwards following good work from Michael Farrell. Brown again converted.
Farrell got in on the act himself just before the break, finishing off a fine Charlie Roscoe run. Brown’s successful conversion put Oldham in the clear at the break.
A good Half time lead of 26-0
Adam Waterhouse touched down shortly after the restart following a neat pass from Nick Hackman, and Brown did the honours with the kick.
Oldham were really in gear by now, with strong attacking and threats coming from all across the team. Brocklehurst scored his second of the game, as did Gillam, prior to Stephen Hastings driving over to score and finish the match with a really good feeling all through the squad. Brown added the Conversion to help his side reach the half-century.
Final Score OLDHAM RUFC 50 v TARLETON 0
This Saturday sees Lovgreen’s lads travel to Birchfield in search of their first away points of the campaign.
