Penybont were our visitors on Saturday but their performance did not reflect their current poor league position.
In a very open 1st half, Nick Mumby headed over from close range after a sweeping move involving Dan Green and Jack Weaver. Moments later, Penybont missed a great chance of their own, hitting the post when it was possibly easier to score. The lively Barry Bellis then hit the crossbar before putting an effort just wide of the post. Trystan Davies and Stefan Rowlands denied a Penybont player when clean through before Barry was again denied after a weaving run from Jack!
Steff then blazed a shot over the bar after a goal mouth scramble. 0-0 Half time.
A less eventful 2nd half saw a couple of changes with Rob Bayliss replacing Dan Owen and Dan Hamer replacing debutant Morgan Jones who looked assured in his 1st outing in yellow.
With time running out, Barry finally outwitted the visiting defence and rounded the Keeper, only to be brought down with the ref pointing to the spot and booking the Penybont keeper. Rob Bayliss took control of the situation, sending the keeper the wrong way. Penybont then forced a corner looked to hit back but Tommy Jones was then upended in the box and the ref pointed to the spot again. Rob stepped up again with the same outcome.
A good result for the lads who now look forward to hosting Newbridge next weekend.
