Congratulation to Jim Adams

Jim, started as a player during his time with the RBS West Region Division 1 club, which has spanned 25 years.

He went on to coach a group of players, including his own son Max, from the ages of 5-7 to under 18s. Max has recently left Allan Glen’s to join the army.

Jim then went on to coach the 2nd XV before becoming the team manager with the 1st team. Currently, Jim works with the team during training and match days, setting out cones and balls and helping with drills.

On match days Jim will provide the water bottles for the team and runs touch and after the match he even washes the team’s kit!
The team kept the nomination quiet from Jim and it was a great surprise for him when he won.

Stuart Kellock, father of Scotland lock Alastair, is the club’s fixtures secretary and has been with the club as long as Jim. “If you want something done at Allan Glen’s, Jim is your man. He puts a lot of effort in and when you need something you know you can always rely on him.”

“Years ago he was essential in getting a second XV out every week. Now you can just send a text message with a click of the finger but years ago Jim would spend a lot of time chasing players up over the phone and checking availability. “He worked with the youngsters when his son was coming up and now does a lot of work assisting with the first and second teams. There is no one more deserving of this award at Allan Glen's than him.”

Andy Meharry, a prop for the first XV, was the person who nominated Jim. “Jim does everything for the club. He is the first one out on a Saturday morning sponging the pitch and making sure its playable and he is the last one left collecting the kit after the game. He really goes the extra mile for the club, he will pick players up and run them to away games and will do everything to make sure there is a side put out, he even goes as far to text you to check your availability when you are in the same room as him!”

Scotland lock and Glasgow Warriors captain Al Kellock also paid tribute to the man who is a pillar of his former club. “I know Jim very well through Allan Glen’s. “When I think of Allan Glenn’s I think of Jim. Probably because I always think of him wearing the kit. He wears a replica shirt everywhere and always seems to have it on. Jim is a great club guy. He’s the type of person who makes the club run and doesn’t really get a lot of recognition so for him to be receiving this award is terrific.”

Jim will receive a table at the annual Scottish Rugby Club Awards Dinner, at Murrayfield on Friday 31 May 2013, where he will be in with a chance of winning the prestigious RBS Club Volunteer of the Season award.
