Evans is back with a bang!

as Aston close in on third.

On a sunny spring afternoon Aston played host to Milton in the league. Astons remaining aims for the season a 3rd place finish as well as junior challenge cup glory. Dan Molony was "in the gaffer chair" this week and married life seems to have taken it's toll on his mental arithmetic as his team talk spoke of how second was still a possibility.

After this minor discrepancy the starting eleven was named with no surprises as Aston only had twelve, Caswell being the very 12th man. Arguably James Fleming at centre back was the biggest surprise along with the casual Hewer in goal.
A 4-4-2 formation was selected after plenty of toing and froing. The game started and it was instantly apparent that the Milton manager wouldn't look out of place on the stage of a Jeremy Kyle show.

The pitch was what could be described as a Tess Daly, it looks the part but was not playing the part. Everyone seemed to be struggling to control the ball and was a dour view, the sparse crowd must have been wondering what they had done to deserve this for an afternoons entertainment.

The monotony and deadlock was broken when a deep cross from Wain was rather flapped at by the Milton up and under goalkeeper who was rather vigorously being reversed into by the In season loved up badger Kennedy. The ball fell to strike partner Colleton who thundered the ball home into the roof of the net. 1-0 Aston, the Milton manager was furious.

A brief half time chat was hosted by Molony as most if not all players moaned about the pitch. In the second half Aston seemed to apply the Pep Guardiola school of passing and some incredibly confident play was impressive to watch until it went "John Stones" wrong. Sick note Hedges rather under hit a back pass and Hewer in a possible bad starting position seem to find the local quicksand and a Milton striker squared the pass and it was tapped into the unguarded net. 1-1. Game on.

The game had sparked into life, soon Beer reacted angrily to a challenge on him which saw the Milton mob baying for blood, Beer was acting as if he was on the jeremy kyle stage also, "I'm addicted to the gym but the supplements make me aggressive". The Kyle ring leader (Milton manager) wanted red, but Beer only saw yellow.

Aston responded with a tactical switch more by chance than direction as the 4-4-2 became a diamond with Beer at the base trying to keep himself out of trouble and Evans in the free role. Evans took the game by the scruff of the neck. A ball over the top down the right saw the deceptively quick Vincenzo beat the Milton player to the ball. Crunch. Penalty. Up stepped Hedges to slot home another penalty. 2-1. Hedges has an uncanny ability of sending the Goalkeeper the wrong way.

Two quickly became three as a cute dink from Molony who had popped up at left wing found Evans who at last found the net. A drought nearly as fondly remembered as the great drought of 1976. Milton were not posing much threat but a superb left handed save was a joy to behold from Hewer as he saw a Milton shot late through a crowd of players to keep the lead at two goals.

There were more frustrations from the Milton mob whinging about the Aston linesman and the referee for not sending off perm haired Rowe. If Dunstan had been running the line there would have categorically been a riot.

Colleton was soon subbed as Caswell made his 401st appearance for the club and was paired up front with fellow badger Kennedy and an instant link up nearly saw Caswell score with a header despite Kennedy attempting to pass it along the ground. Daly blamed again.

The game was soon capped in emphatic style with quite simply goal of the season. A corner for the lions saw the reds cajole and move in the penalty area as Wain delivered a deep corner which found Molony who hit the ball with the outside of his boot into the top left hand corner of the net, the ball audibly fizzed as it speared into the net. Thoughts immediately turned to fellow right back and club patron Pascal Chimbonda, Molony trotted back to his right back position visibly excited and son confirmed it was the best goal he had ever scored. 4-1 Aston and in the end a convincing victory in which Evans was superb.
