10 man Bagshot grab all three points with late goals

Bagshot showed great character to grab all three points in a game they looked more likely to lose in a disjointed performance.
With a few players missing they started well and took an early lead through Charlie Gordon after the Dorking keeper dropped the ball. However they were forced to make a change shortly after when Tre Trowers pulled up with a hamstring injury meaning sub Sam Cobbett went into midfield. This unsettled Bagshot and the game became scrappy with Bagshot working hard to win the ball but then quickly giving it away again. Dorking grew in confidence and deservedly equalized in the 35th minute, and went 2-1 up 10 minutes into the second half after a mix up in the Bagshot defence.
But Jordan Merriman made it 2-2 five minutes later with a fine solo effort, however his good work was undone when shortly after he was shown a straight red for a stamp on a defender.
At this point it looked like the young Dorking side would go onto win the game, using their pace to stretch the game and create chances. But the chances were not taken and Bagshot gambled and pushed players up in the 86th minute for a free kick which Sam Hanger headed in.
Dorking heads dropped and Tony Cavanagh got a fourth in the last minute with a deflected shot which his man of the match performance deserved.
A special mention also goes to Sam Cobbett who put in a great effort when pushed up front when the team were down to 10 men.
Manager Brett Wickens said “This was not the greatest performance today but we battled well and showed good character to keep playing to get the 3 points when it looked unlikely.”
