Banbury lads dominate a very strong line up

Leamington Rugby Tournament – 30th April 2017

The sun was shining with a little bit of wind but we all arrived in good time with the actual kick off of 11 o/clock. Banbury Under Tens yet again field 2 teams of a high caliber including a few subs per team. For the parents the timetable was great with only one cross over time hence we could watch all our plays and support accordingly. Prior to play a well managed voting was undertaken the boys lining up to select the “players’ player” while the parents had slips of paper to vote for the “parents players”. Roll on the end of season party for all to be revealed.

Banbury 2 vs Heaton Moor – Final Score 2/1

Try 1 was scored after a pass forward by the opposition enable great team work with a pass from Jake to Scott and then onto Kieran to score. Opposition was passing well but kept losing the ball with great tackling by Mathew/ Euan and Fin. Opposition coach was very load and volume was raised with a few clumsy mistakes by the opposition while under presssure. Mathews try was set up with a great pass from Marcus with Jack driving forward gaining round and then an offload to Mathews to finish the set piece.

BANBURY 1 vs Bournville 1 - Final Score 3/3

There was great team work across the pitch with the ball flying from player to player. An awesome tackle by Luke stopped the opposition in their tracks. A great driving backwards by Harry kept the opposition from our try line.

Banbury 2 vs Broadstreet 1– Final Score 4/2

The opposition were quick of the mark with the first try going to Broadstreet. However Euan did a great tackle into touch. A great pass from Mathew to Fin set up a try fro Jake. A quick pick up from Fin enable a storming down the field to score a try. Euan continued tackling like a bulldog . The passing was much better in the second half and great team work by all enabled a further tries by Jake.

BANBURY 1 vs Leamington 1- Final Score 1/0

This was a close and hard fort match with the only try scored in the last minutes of the game. Set up by good team work between Ollie and Rhys. Leamington kept their line out formation well with excellent passing down the line enabling a great overlap opportunity to score a try but a last minute decision to cut in enable the Banbury squad to stop them in their tracks

Banbury 2 vs Leamington 1 – Final Score 5/4

Again the match started with a quick try by the opposition. Jack did a straight off quick run to score the first try for Banbury in a hard fought match. A great pass by Mathew to Euan lead to the next try. Isaac our very own banbury bull did a great tackle with another lovely pass from Mathew setting up another try for Euan. A great mid air steal by Mathew and there was no stopping the team. Good shipping by Scott, Ollie and Kieran set up a run by Mathew with another try score but with Isaac support on the outside lap over.

BANBURY 1 vs Broadstreet 2 - Final Score 6/2

Nathan provided the cover and support on the outer wing ensure no opposition could get through Banbury line. A great rip by Josh and a break out down the field led to a near try but tackle on the line. Charlie stormed into play ripping and running with the ball. The whole team showed great drive and pressure.

Banbury 2 vs Harbury – Final Score 0/7

A dumb fool led to Jack storming down the pitch to score the first try. Kieran scored an outstanding try running half way down the pitch. A well place pass by Marcus lead to another try for the team. Kieran showed his listen and learning skills by holding back well so as not to touch a forward moving ball. Scot did a good tackle and passed to Euan who got tackle but with sideline advise from his Dad of “spin it Euan” the ball was soon back in the Banbury team hands. An opposition was manhandle into touch by Mat and Jack. Jack “blue lips” rant the entire pitch to score a try.

BANBURY 1 vs Broadstreet 1 - Final Score 5/3
Tries by (Noah 4, Seb 1)
The referees love of scrums caused one parent to ask “What does cause a scrum? Should this be an end of season quiz question for the boys. Josh move into a centre position of the field and with great tackling provide great support to his squad. Charlie nearly scored a try but a further scrum was given, Seb launched himself down the field to score a try. Brilliant drive and commitment by Kai/ Ollie and Jonty set up numerous opportunities for Noah to thunder down the pitch to score tries for the team.

Banbury 2 vs Bournvville 2 – Final Score 6/4
Tries by (Fin 1, Jack 1, Jake 1, Mathew 3)
Great running and dodging by Fin lead to the first try. Ollie had stepped up his game with some awesome tackling . Jack ripped the ball out of a tackle t to thunder down the pitch to score a try. Great team work between Fin and Ollie pushing the opposition into touch and then more ripping and team work passing lead to a hat trick of tries for Mathew. Marcus was unfortunately received a kick to the head and hence was injured off but good St John Ambulance review , no long term injuries sustained.

The tournament was well run with vouchers for all the boys to get a free burger or sausage roll, with photo opportunities rolled in with Nathan Hughes a wasps/ England player. Isaac performed outstandingly in the final challenge of the day in the clubhouse a song from the Banbury team – a solo of “Once in Royal David’s City” left the opposition speechless.
