Another week into the Caledonia League 1 campaign and another away game for the mighty men from Banff.
3 tries from Captain Gordon Robertson were not enough to prevent his team from slipping to their second defeat of the season against a well drilled Grangemouth outfit.
The scoreline suggests a big gap between the two teams, but just as last week, doesn’t show how close the game was for long periods, but does highlight that at this level, any mistake will be punished.
The team learnt the lessons from the previous weekend and the tackle count was significantly better and you could see the team starting to realise that they will be able to compete in this league and improved performances will surely come, as will the results.
There was a party atmosphere with family and friends coming down to support the team and sharing jokes and stories with the Grangemouth contingent, and this did not go unnoticed on the Grangemouth Twitter account “that’s a real family club #impressive #rugbyfamily” which shows that when it comes down to it, although the rugby is important, so is the building of new friendships and relationships with all the clubs on this new rugby journey and we look forward to hosting Grangemouth at Duff House later in the season.
There are things still to work on, but this was an improved performance from the previous week and for sure there is more to come from the mighty men from Banff.
Special mention goes to the brothers Hester playing on the same side for the first time, a family moment for the scrapbook.
Next week sees yet another away game for the lads at Blairgowrie in the first round of the Shield, hope to see you all there!
