Weekend Preview

By Mal Davies

All the weekend action from around the club and community

Due to the small matter of the Wales versus England International on Saturday there are no 1st XV, 2nd XV and Youth XV games.

But there is still plenty of sporting action for our Clubs.

MINI & JUNIOR RUGBY

Our mini and junior “Bulldogs” are in action on Sunday morning and you can see many of our teams on the playing fields around the village. There is no better way to walk off the Six Nations hangovers than popping along to see our future stars playing the game in good spirits. Our continued thanks go out to all the coaches, referees, first aiders, etc who make these Sunday fun days happen for the Children of our Club and Community it so much appreciated.

DARTS

Our Friday nights darts team will look to keep their lead at the top of the Pontyclun & District Darts Winter league when they travel to Red Gate A this weekend.

Lenny’s Lions currently hold top spot by a point from old time rivals Ogmore A who they will again play on the final weekend of the season.

Red Gate A currently occupy eighth place in the table having won five of their fifteen fixtures this season. One of their ten defeats came at our Castellau Road Clubhouse back in November when Beddau were on top form claiming a 7-0 (14-2 legs) victory. Ian “Bompa” Phillips threw some good darts that evening and recorded one maximum.

The game commences at 8.15pm and the team will appreciate any travelling support.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare’s recent good form will be tested to the maximum this weekend as they make the trip to league leaders STM Sports (2pm).

The Sports have enjoyed an excellent season winning eleven of their fifteen games and just losing twice. They have drawn twice with one of them results coming at Mount Pleasant Park back in October when Cwm put up a good performance in the 2-2 draw.

Cwm are still in the relegation zone but are now just two points away from getting out of there. Confidence is pretty high at the moment and if they can string a couple more good results together then they will be sitting in a good mid-table position.

ENTERTAINMENT

Who could forget what is happening this weekend!!

The big Wales versus England clash plus two more Six Nations fixtures. The Club will certainly be packed for the games so make sure you are there early to get your seat. You can catch the game on the many big screens and large TV’s around the Clubhouse. There is also plenty of top quality Premiership soccer action live all weekend. Again there is live entertainment in the bar on Sunday afternoon which is free for members and bonafide guests.

LOTTERY

Don’t forget whilst your up the Club over the weekend to pick up your lucky Club lottery ticket. Just choose four numbers from twenty on the card and you could earn yourself a big jackpot. Tickets are priced just £1 and are available from behind the bar.

Have a great weekend.
