Bovey bobble undoes Sutton

Added time winner sees Sutton knocked out of the FA Vase

Sutton travelled to Devon for this FA Vase match against South West Peninsula side Bovey Tracey who had beaten Keynsham Town 3 – 1 in the First Qualifying round.

Sutton were without left back George Thorne who has now returned to Medical School, goalkeeper Josh Yakub attending a wedding, central defender Kai Long and forward Chris Hind unavailable due to work commitments and Callum Hinder also returned to university.
Seventeen year old Fraser Thomas took the keeper’s gloves behind James Pool, Adam Crooks, Nathan Rendell and Sam Roberts, a midfield of captain Jack Keen, Corey Rawlings, Sam Downes and Sam Glasson with Mason Daggar and Jem Douglas in attack.

From the first whistle Bovey took the game to Sutton, stretching the ‘new look’ defence and giving Thomas in goal a busy time.
Sutton just had one decent shot, Douglas firing over with a powerful drive from 20 metres.

Sutton played the first sub on 57 minutes, Glasson being replaced by Zach Francis.
2 minutes later a Rawlings centre from the right found Daggar who shot over.
The other two subs were made in the 60th and 67th minutes, Douglas and Keen giving way to Josh Dakwa and Adam Young.
On 70 minutes Sutton’s goal came under sustained pressure, Thomas making two reflex saves and Crooks and Rendell blocking goalbound shots.
It seemed as though the game would go into extra time when on 90 + 2 a Bovey centre along the ground from the left took a ‘bobble’ over Rendell’s boot, rolling on to an unmarked Bovey forward who side footed home.
