Cleethorpes Under 14s v Boston Under 14s

By

After a week of unpredictable weather conditions Boston U14s travelled to Cleethorpes and managed to complete the game under brilliant blue skies albeit on a very squaddy, water logged pitch.

With a couple of players unavailable Boston arrived with 16 boys all eager to show the hosts what an amazing team they have developed into during the course of the season.
Cleethorpes were first to run in a try but failed to convert, Boston soon replied when scrum half Josh Cook took his opportunity and scored in the corner with Matt Bray converting a difficult ball to put Boston ahead. Cleethorpes were soon back in front with some shocking refereeing decisions, always to the advantage of the home side! Again unable to convert. Boston showed them that we were the better team and after an awesome run of 55m Alex Roberts touched down between the posts for a well earned try, again converted by Matt.
After the break Cleethorpes showed they were the stronger side in the scrum and took another try, then what followed unfortunately ruined the atmosphere of the game when a blatant bias decisions made by the Cleethorpes Ref allowed a controversial try and conversion. Boston refused to allow this to deter them, if anything it spurred them on, along with the cheers and thunderous support from parents on the touchline after some great passing along the line Oli Balsom had a superb run for Boston’s third try, yet again converted by Bray, his endless practicing obviously paying off, proved by his 100% success rate during this match.
Cleethorpes finished the scores with another try, again unsuccessful in conversion leaving the final score 27-21. Boston left the field with heads held high, deservedly so, their sportsmanship and mature attitude a credit to them, playing brilliantly in ‘difficult’ conditions. Man of the Match was a tricky decision as there had been some outstanding play from several players including Josh Cook and Birthday Boy James Andrews but the decision went in favour of Alex Roberts who was awarded the accolade for his good support play and terrific try.
TEAM: : James Andrews, Oliver Balsom, Iain Borley, Matt Bray, Ross Chambers, Ben Clawson, Josh Cook, Harry Dean-Allen, James Hurley, Adam Johnson, Michael Keal, Luke Mcleod, Jack Power, Alex Roberts, Callum Scuffham, Charlie Taylor.
