Brightlingsea Regent boarded the coach and headed south once again, this time to the Westhumble, Home of Dorking Wanderers.
The R’s started bright and created their first chance after just 5 minutes. Billy Hunt received the ball on the right hand corner of the box, he drove through getting his shot away across goal but the was well saved by Dorking keeper Harry Palmer.
Then after just 9 minutes, Regent found themselves behind against the run of play. The ball found its way through to Dan Pearse on the edge of the box, he was allowed to turn and get his shot away, which went low and into the bottom corner of the goal. 1-0
The R’s pressed for an equaliser and they were awarded the opportunity to level when Freddie Gard got the ball on the left hand side of the box, he went at his man Jerome Beccles who brought him down, no complaints and the Penalty was awarded after 32 minutes. Billy Hunt stepped up and smashed Home the penalty. 1-1
The R’s were only level for around 30 seconds. Dorking took the lead once more when a long throw wasn’t dealt with and ball found James McShane who hit a sweet left foot effort into the top corner from the edge of the box. 2-1
Regent pressed for a goal just before half time, but ending up getting caught out once more when a through pass down the Regent’s right side got Tom Tolfrey in behind and through on goal to slot past Sam Cowler. HT 3-1
The hosts back line looked resilient and Dorking defended very well in the second half as Regent pushed to get back into the game.
A glimmer of hope for Regent came on the 80 minute mark, second half substitute Aaron Condon was able to shake off his marker and hit a left foot half volley on the edge of the box into the bottom corner of the net. Setting up a huge 10 minute serge for the R’s. 3-2.
Regent did get one more stab late on. With just moments remaining Freddie Gard got wide and centred a cross with looped over Harry Palmer and met by Aaron Condon. But he couldn’t keep the headed effort down and the ball went over the bar from 2 yards! FT 3-2
It wasn’t to be for the Regent as they never really recovered from conceding so early once again. With the belief in the camp, there’s no doubt the team can turn the series of bad results around, and what better place to do that but at the Taydal this Tuesday when we entertain high flying Wingate & Finchley.
