Brackley 2nds 7 points v Buckingham 3rds 35 points
The season ends with a tough local fixture, Brackley were always on top from the first minute until well in to the first half. The Buckingham forwards were struggling to secure clean ball from scrums and line outs.
Buckingham’s defence lead by Gann, Cook and Reader was outstanding. Preventing Brackley from taking advantage of 20 minutes of possession camped on Buckingham’s try line.
Buckingham changed the structure of the team by moving Ian Bassett position in the second row, Andrew Reader to scrum half and bringing on Curtis Rogers to Prop. This changed the tempo of the game and gave Buckingham control of their ball from set play.
The first visit by Buckingham to Brackley’s half of the pitch saw the backs run freely from one wing to the other, a combination of good lines and swift hands lead to a try by Tim Norman running in out wide. Good ball secured by the Buckingham forwards opened up the game with three further tries by Ben Wood, Chris Stanford and Andrew Reader, all converted by Stanford.
Brackley put on a brave face towards the end of the game and their efforts were rewarded with a try and conversion. This was quickly followed by Buckingham’s Jake McInnis running in a great individual try by dancing his way through the Brackley defence. Stanford topped off his day with five conversions out of five.
Buckingham won 35 points to Brackley 7 points this was a great way to finish a very successful season for Buckingham 3rds, a win on the last game and a second place in the Winter Warmers league.
