After the weather disruptions of the past fortnight, it was great to get back into the swing of Rugby on a sunny and crisp morning.

A number of Chippenham players were away due to Half Term holidays but the squad was big enough to field two very eager sides against Cleve. It was a pleasure to welcome a strong club that would test the skills of the Chippenham teams. The decision was taken to split into an A side and a Development side and they would play against their Cleve counterparts. It indeed proved a good test.

Chippenham ‘A’ 2 - Cleve ‘A’ 3
Cleve put in a great first half performance and played both a direct and passing game. They also proved strong at the tackle and many times the ball was turned over. Chippenham played well and Alex scored a great try after the forwards won a scrum against the head. Cleve responded and scored two tries and from the restart of the second, Ben tore through the defensive line to score. Sadly, Cleve came straight back and scored the winning try. Chippenham Try scorers – Alex and Ben

Chippenham ‘Development’ 3 - Cleve 0
A superb performance put in by the Chippenham team and even when they rotated subs, this had no impact on the performance. Cleve had some strong runners and passed well but the Chippenham defence was excellent with crunching tackles from Archie, Charlie, Owen and George to name a few. Morgan kept the ball flowing and the team put in a great effort to rack up three good tries.
Chippenham Try scorers – Archie (2) and Oscar B.

Chippenham ‘A’ 3 – Cleve ‘A’ 4
Cleve got off to a great start and through too many turnovers and missed tackles, they were leading 0-3 by half time. Chippenham re-focused in the second half and spread the ball really well. From one such movement, Woody scored and then Oscar showed his pace and strength by taking the pass at speed and weaving through the defence to touchdown. Cleve came back into the game and scored a fourth but Chippenham kept going and great fluent passing was followed by another great swerve from Oscar to score. A very good game.
Chippenham Try scorers – Oscar S (2) and Woody

Chippenham ‘Development’ 3 – Cleve 5
After convincingly winning the first game and taking a rest, Chippenham faced a determined Cleve who put in a gritty performance. They swiftly took the lead and even though Chippenham kept hammering away with strong running and good hands, Cleve finished off winning.
Chippenham Try scorers – George (2) and Archie.

Thanks to the Referee’s, Shaun and Trystan who managed both matches very well and the Cleve players and Coaches for ensuring the games were played in the right spirit. Next week Chippenham are away at Devizes. 10.00am start.
