Peterborough Sports 1-4 Clee Town

By

Cleethorpes continued their 100% record so far in the League this season, with a 4-1 win away at Peterborough Sports.

The game started off very even, with both sides looking to gain the upper hand. The first good chance of the game went to the home side, as Moreman cut in from the left hand side before forcing Higton into a great save at his near post.

Shortly after, Sports went close again, although Jones sent the ball over the bar, after he received the ball inside the box.

The Owls took the lead just before the 20th minute mark, as Andy Taylor capitalised on a poor clearance from the home side, before dribbling the ball around the goalkeeper, then calmly slotting it into the net.

In the 36th minute, the home side hit back, as Lewis Webb fired a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty box to make the scores level going into the break.

The first half was very even, with both sides looking strong in the challenge and with both sides looking very dangerous going forward, 1-1 was probably the fair score as we entered the break.

The Owls made a strong start to the second half and regained the lead in the 62nd minute, after some fantastic work from Liam Davis down the right, who looked dangerous all game, crossed the ball into Cooper, who then placed the ball into the back of the net.

After this goal, the Owls looked full of confidence and almost got a 3rd when Oglesby fired an effort just wide of the post, with the goalkeeper having no chance.

Marc Cooper grabbed his brace in the 81st minute, he was strong in the air to win the ball and then beat the goalkeeper with a smart finish to make it 3-1 to the Owls.

Cooper then grabbed his hat trick just a couple of minutes later, after fantastic work from Oglesby, the winger then crossed a brilliant ball to Cooper at the back post, who volleyed home to seal a magnificent hat trick and victory for the Owls.

It was a fantastic win for the Owls, who broke Peterborough’s 50 game unbeaten home run and the Owls continued their perfect start to the league season.
