2nds win against Banbridge
By Bob Beatty
Great victory and an important result
The Valley second string ran out comfortable winners in this important league encounter on Saturday. Banbridge opened up the brightest and soon went three points clear courtesy of a penalty. Alas this was to be their only score as the homesters went on to dominate proceedings for long periods. Turner scored out wide rounding off a real team effort. It went unconverted but Clogher edged further ahead minutes later, flanker Moore finishing of a move crafted by Creaney and Moore . Clive Donaldson, who had a fine outing, chipped ahead and showing deft footballing skills, dribbled some fifty metres for a well-deserved touchdown which was duly goaled by Speers.
The second period was much more of the same. Clogher had significant advantage up front. Foy and Robinson had their opposite no’s in all sorts of trouble at scrum time and Greaves with Mulligan were to lord the lineouts for most of the afternoon. Foy added to his growing reputation crashing over after a period of sustained pressure on the Bann line without half Speers adding the extras taking the Valley tally to twenty four points. Banbridge almost struck back encamping in the Valley 22 metre area in their best period of the game. Clogher defended well with Trimble making some important big hits and gradually they weathered the storm. Speers rounded off the afternoon scoring a late try leaving Clogher comfortable winners and in possession of two valuable points.
