The First Team picked up a valuable three points on Friday night. Rhayader Towns perfect home record was ended after a crazy game finished 5-4.
After 18 minutes we found ourselves 3-0 down. A deflected shot saw Rhayader take the lead inside five minutes. Ten minutes later a long range effort deceived keeper Kris Williams in goal before a header from a corner saw our opponents race into a 3-0 lead. In that spell Peter Rees had our best chance, he was played in but saw his shot parried away for a corner. We were given a lifeline when Richie Evans beat his man on the right side numerous times, his cross was fired into the net by Gregg Brown. Moments before half time, Brown released Peter Rees to curl home our second and see the half end 2-3.
We were ahead within 5 minutes of the restart. Ashley Owen released Richie Evans to tie the game before Colin Reynolds put us ahead when he pounced on a loose ball inside the box from a Jordan Jones knock down. Rhayader fought back though and put us under pressure with a few free kicks. The game was level on the hour, we failed to clear our lines and their midfielder curled the ball into the top corner to tie the game. Ioan Humphreys scored what was to be the winner with 26 minutes to go. Another set piece found Colin Reynolds, he picked out Humphreys to score the winner. New signing Harry Holt made a brilliant impact off the bench. He was denied twice as we looked to put the game to bed. Gregg Brown also saw a header clear the bar before a Richie Evans shot was blocked. Rhayader put us under some pressure in the 5 minutes of added on time, we held out though to secure the 3 points.
All the boys showed fantastic character to recover from a nightmare opening 20 minutes. Gregg Brown scored the milestone 250th goal in the League under manager Chris Davies.
