Thanks again to Daz Long on the summary of tonight’s action.
This was the first time I have seen the new look Under 18s this season and how could I not be impressed. The whole team performed superbly and were clearly a class above a Corinthians team who are not that bad a side themselves. Our movement off the ball, slick passing and awareness of where our teammates are was just too much for the home side who were chasing shadows during the second half. A lot of their players were shattered at the end while we actually looked like we could have played another ninety-minutes. The team performance was so good that it is difficult to pick out one player as man-of-the-match tonight. The defence was extremely solid, the midfield both hard working and creative, while those who played up front ran the home defence ragged at times, especially during the second half. Jessi Obeng was unbelievably good after moving to the right wing in the second half after a relatively quiet first forty-five minutes on the other flank and his measured passing would have had the pundits purring on match of the day. Tom Iaciofano looks dangerous every time he gets the ball, but my man of the match today goes to Harry Darnell who was simply superb for the whole ninety-minutes.
It was a real pleasure to watch these young lads in action tonight and a big thank you is due to Daz and Chris for the way they play football and entertain the crowd. The attitude is spot-on and even when the home side kicked them a bit in the first half they simply got up and got on with the game which is both refreshing and encouraging. Look forward to watching them again soon.
