Captains Log!

Yesterday, Croydon RFC ventured out to Battersea Park to play against London Media. The air was muggy and players turning up in dribs and drabs, due to the traffic. Eventually we got through our rather swift warm up and set out to try and achieve our goal: finish the year with a win.
The game was a bit scruffy in some areas in the first half, scrums were fairly tough, but we still remain very dominant, just like the last few games. Line outs went well and the back line played superbly. It was nice to welcome back to the field Richard Woodhams. London Media were fighting us down to our own 22, just as they were passing the ball out for another phase, the ball was intercepted Toru Higuchi, which he sprinted for dear life to touch down for our first try! Our next try came from a lineout, we set up for maul, it was held back by Media just on their 5 meter line, we broke away to reset up the maul. Gareth 'stretch' Phillips sensing his opportunity, drove himself over the line to secure our second try!

End of the first half.
Second half was much like the first, just a lot more line outs and scrums, both teams going back and forward. Eventually we had a breath of fresh air, the backs played the ball out wide, with our "forward playing with the backs" Carl Shrimpton rushing for the try-line, getting tackled just before it, then popping the ball up to Toru Higuchi, who set it down for our third try of this game. Our fourth and final try came from our number 8 Jonny Humphrey who fought his way to drive the ball over the line! Jack Bond securing our points and slotting over a penalty.

Game ended: London Media 15 - Croydon RFC 29 !! We set out and achieved what we need to achieve! Job well done gentlemen.

Well done to Conor Maloney on playing five games in with the 1st XV and getting your exclusive tie.

Men of the match:
Back of the match: Toru Higuchi
Forward of the match: Jonny Humphrey

Special mention Billy Cannony Cannon, who managed to tackle every player who ran his way, keep up the good work!

Thank you all and merry Christmas!
