The u16’s started the League campaign on Sunday and eventually ran out 39 – 10 winners against Ruislip.
In the first half Datchworth created a number of chances only for some passing errors and some untidy work at the breakdown to keep the teams even ,turning round at 10 -10.
Ruislip had taken a lead when they managed to kick the ball down field recover possession and score under the posts. Datchworth then came back with two unconverted tries, Charlie Fullbrook carrying hard as he did all morning ultimately setting up Dominic Negri to score, then Dominic Lant adding a second following a lineout steal by Negri. Ruislip added a penalty a to make it a frustrating 10 – 10 at half time.
The second half was different matter with Datchworth putting together their play and cutting out the errors to add 29 unanswered points.
Two tries from the Debutant Maxwell Imina, finishing well on the wing & a try for Christopher Saunders latching onto an offload from George Little, Dominic Lant again holding on to a long pass from Little, and Theo Wise benefitting from a ball against the head and going over, James Hunter added two conversions.
Despite the ascendancy Ruislip had a period of sustained pressure which Datchworth fought hard to keep out and Dean Carmichael won the champagne moment for a crunching tackle on the tryline which relieved the pressure and prevented any late come back from Ruislip.
Charlie Fullbrook picked up man of the match for his effective hard carrying up front which consistently put Datchworth on the front foot throughout the game.
Next week the u 16’s travel to Hemel for round two of the league.
