Women's Super League Kicks Off

Castleford Tigers and Bradford Bulls both picked up wins as the Women's Super League kicked off on Sunday

Castleford Tigers and Bradford Bulls both picked up opening-day wins as the Women's Super League got underway on Sunday.

The Tigers were at home to local rivals Featherstone Rovers and stormed to a 48-14 win.

Lucy Eastwood proved to be the star of the show, scoring a remarkable five tries, while Ellie Lamb scored twice and Jasmine Cudjoe scored once.

Katie Hepworth kicked eight goals for the winning side to add extra gloss to the scoreline.

Featherstone battled until the end with Sarah Dunn scoring twice and Jasmine Hazel going over once. Dunn also added one goal.

Elsewhere in the Women's Super League, Thatto Heath-St Helens welcomed Bradford Bulls and this time it was the away side who took the spoils, Bradford winning 32-26.

Two Bradford players scored hat-tricks to see their side to victory, Amy Hardcastle and Shona Hoyle both bagging trebles, although it was a superb all round team performance.

Claire Garner added four goals to seal the win for the Bradford.

Thatto's Danni Bound scored twice, and there were further tries for Tara Stanley, Rachel Thompson and Faye Gaskin. Tara Stanley also added three goals.

Meanwhile in the Women's Championship, Leigh Miners Rangers Ladies were at home to Wakefield Trinity Ladies and Leigh Miners grabbed the win 18-0.

Leigh's Jenna Banks, Rhianna Burke, Molly Wild and Taleah Bako all scored once each for Leigh with Rachel Ogden adding one goal.

Dawn Eaton impressed for the home side to earn the Player of the Match award.

Finally, Wigan St Patricks Ladies took on Oulton Raidettes at home and it was Oulton who earned a 42-30 win.

Oulton's Abigail Burton topped the tryscoring chart for the afternoon with a hat-trick, while Frankie Townend, Reagan Walker and Danielle Anderson all scored two tries each.

Reagan Walker also added three goals.

Wigan's tries were scored by Megan Dickinson, Kelsey Armistead, Holly Speakman, Joenie Aspin and Sammy Traynor. Charlotte Foley added four goals.
