Toc H Ladies Flying High!!

By Rob Jones

Didsbury ladies maintain their unbeaten run in the league with a 31-5 win over Preston Grasshoppers

Didsbury Toc H ladies took to the field for the first time in a few weeks and looked to continue their unbeaten run after A 81-0 win over Altrincham Kersal and a 70-0 victory over Garstang ladies in November. Unfortunately the team had to concede the cup game against Barnsley due to player on availability however this gave chance for the development team to play and they managed a 33-0 victory over Stockport.

Preston Grasshoppers come into the match in 3rd place with 5 wins out of 6 looking to close the gap at the top of the table.

The game started with Didsbury Ladies taking the initiative with Joe Devine scoring after five minutes from a crossfield kick from Megan Grant Harris which sat up perfectly for Jo to run onto and take the ball and score underneath the posts. Megan Grant Harris scored the Conversion giving the home team a 7-0 lead.

Preston came back into the game straight away with a good try which came from some good work at the breakdown and they scored to the left of the post but what unable to convert.

Handling was impaired due to the muddy conditions and possession changed sides regularly but with Didsbury dominating the scrum managed to set up a good base to score from with Olivia ball and Sian McGuinness scoring with Megan converting one of the tries, the first half ended 19-5.

Preston came out hard in the second half but Didsbury defence was unbreakable and due to the dominant scrum especially from props Claire Gordon and Rachel Harrison the referee had to go to uncontested scrums due to the Preston scrum struggling to cope with the pressure from Didsbury.

Didsbury scored two tries in the second half with Olivia ball scoring her second and Laura scoring the fifth and final try underneath the posts which was converted by Megan Grant Harris which was the final score 31 -5.

Didsbury had a good performance especially with a solid defence especially shown by forward of the match Annie Lyles for her big hits and powerful runs with the ball in attack. Back of the match was Laura For a good game at fullback and her strong running with the ball.

Preston were a great opposition and we will look forward to the challenge of playing them later on in the season.

Didsbury set top of the table with 34pts now with seven wins out of seven were scoring a total of 445 points Conceeding only 40.

Didsbury Ladies travel away to 2nd in the league Crewe and Nantwich next week for the last game before Christmas, this is sure to be a great event as Crewe are looking to avenge their 53 -10 defeat earlier in the season and Didsbury will be looking to put some distance between them and the rest of the teams in the league. The game will be played at Crewe and Nantwich Rugby Club with the kickoff of 2 PM, All support would be massively welcomed.
