The last pre-season round-up

On Thursday the 'Southwark News' ran with the headline:

Dulwich Hamlet finished their friendly schedule in emphatic fashion as Dumebi Dumaka scored his eight goal of pre-season in a 5-1 rout of Carshalton Athletic.
Despite being without key players Ashley Carew and Ibrahim Kargbo, Hamlet raced into an early lead when Anthony Acheampong fed Nana Boakye-Yiadom and he sped away to put the away side ahead.
Nyren Clunis went close to increasing the lead in the 25th minute, before Nathan Green saw his shot blocked.
Gavin Rose’s side did eventually deservedly go two goals up, after Gavin Tomlin crossed for Michael Chambers to get his head to the ball before Dumaka volleyed home.
It could have been 3-0 before the break, but again Clunis was off target from Acheampong’s ball forward.
Clunis missed another chance after the break, and at the other end of the pitch Hamlet goalkeeper Preston Edwards had to be at his best to prevent Michael Chambers finding his own net.
Dulwich made it 3-0 in the 54th minute, when Tomlin’s free-kick deflected off the wall after Dumaka had been fouled.
Carshalton pulled a goal back through Mickel Miller, but Dumaka restored the three-goal advantage eighteen minutes from time and Muhammadu Faal made it five in injury-time from Mohamed Mohamed’s perfect through-ball.
It was the ideal way for Hamlet to finish their pre-season preparations before they face Staines Town next Saturday in their first fixture of the new Isthmian League Premier League season at Champion Hill. Kick-off is 3pm.

Dulwich Hamlet kick-off their Bostik Football League Premier Division campaign with a visit from Staines Town tomorrow. looking to put years of promotion disappointment behind them.
Gavin Rose's side have repeatedly fallen short in the play-offs in the last six years.
So the Champion Hill side will look to clinch the title and automatic promotion this time, after years of frustration.
There is also the matter of non-league bragging rights after Tooting & Mitcham won promotion in May.
"It will be good to pit our wits against them," said Rose. "Frank Wilson has done a fantastic job there."
Hamlet ended their pre-season friendly fixtures with a 5-1 win at Carshalton Athletic last weekend so will look forward to tomorrow's opener against ex-Hamlet ace Johnson Hippolyte's side.
New Dulwich boy Nana Boakye-Yiadom, 21, a striker and former Barnsley youth academy product, opened the scoring at Carshalton.
Dumebi Dumaka took his pre-season goal tally to eight, hitting the second and fourth goals. Gavin Tomlin converted a free-kick and Muhammadu Faal got the last.
Rose said: "Nana is a young lad who was a professional at Barnsley. He has come to us from Leatherhead. Johnson is very clued up and always puts out a very competitive side, so it will be tough."
Rose's other late signing is Anthony Acheampong, an ex-Barnet centre-back from Maidstone.
But his budget has not been improved by Ethan Pinnock signing for Championship side Barnsley-Dulwich had a sell-on clause when he left for Forest Green. "The owners have decided the cash will not go back into our playing budget," said Rose.
